First-Person: New York Storms
The weather in East Homer, New York is nothing but atrocious. The hot weather has come to an end, but not without consequences. Heavy and severe thunderstorms are ravaging my home area. There was severe lightning and thunder that has rippled across much of my
United States of America area along with New York. In upstate New York, it is becoming unbearable with the excessive downpours and torrential rain. Unfortunately today, I had a tree that was on my property for thirty years come crashing down on my lawn.
It still remains there on the ground right now. I am not even venturing outside to remove it because it is still thundering and lightning. It just missed hitting the power lines so I am very happy it missed it. I heard a loud boom and then I looked out side, cautiously, to see what happened. Not only did the tree just miss the power lines, it just missed my 2002 Honda Civic. I know that would have been a mess with the insurance companies. There have been Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued for my county and the surrounding counties of Cortland, Chenango, Tioga, and Broome. Just looking outside, there are tree branches and debris scattered all across the road. It would be impossible to go outside and drive anywhere. My tree fell down on my property at about four o'clock this afternoon.
I also made my kids come inside from biking and hanging out with their friends for fear of their safety. I am not risking their safety for some fun in the rain. It is just way too dangerous. I can hear the thunder crackling and see the many lightning bolts that are lighting up the sky. It is very cool to watch but it is still very scary at the same time. News stations are telling us to stay inside until tomorrow because these storms will continue. I have been also trying to keep water outside of my house when it has been raining hard. I also had to pump my basement out about every hour because water is somehow seeping through and I do not want it to cause mold or anything. I will be up in and around the night to make sure there is no excess water in my basement.
