All-Time Best NFL Defensive Players that Never Won a Super Bowl

Sometimes when a great player retires fans and analysts will say that their only fault was they never won a championship. In football this is usually said about offensive players, especially quarterbacks. Dan Marino is known for never winning a Super Bowl. Many thought John Elway
needed to win a Super Bowl before his career was complete. Others thought that Peyton Manning desperately needed to win the Super Bowl he won two seasons ago. But as the old saying goes, "defense wins championships." These are some of the greatest defensive players of All-time that haven't won a Super Bowl.

Deacon Jones
Many NFL experts will say that Deacon Jones is the greatest defensive player of all-time, or at least is in the argument. Deacon Jones is known for revolutionizing the defensive end position. It is said that Deacon Jones was not only a sack machine but that he actually coined the term "sack." The numbers are unofficial but Deacon Jones claims he had 213.5 sacks in his career and 26 in one season, both would be records. Unfortunately Deacon Jones spent most of his career with the Rams and never won a Super Bowl.

Junior Seau
Junior Seau is known as one of the current best players to never win a Super Bowl. Junior Seau was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 1990 and by the 1991 season he was already in the Pro Bowl. From that point on Junior Seau was on the Pro Bowl team every year he played for San Diego, 12 consecutive years. Junior Seau then went on to play for the Miami Dolphins and recently joined the England Patriots">New England Patriots to try and win a Super Bowl but he has not yet.

Bruce Smith
Bruce Smith might be one of the most underrated players that I've seen play. Everybody remembers Reggie White but few remember that Bruce Smith actually broke Reggie White's career sacks record in 2003. Bruce Smith was elected to 11 Pro Bowls and won 2 Defensive Player of the Year Awards. Bruce Smith helped lead the Buffalo Bills to four straight Super Bowls but they were unable to win any of them.

Carl Eller and Alan Page were great, great players and they should be on this list. And Paul Krause, who wasn't nearly as good but who holds the all-time interception mark, deserves a mention. FWIW, Lane retired before they started playing the Super Bowl. The point still stands, as I don't think he ever won an NFL Title.

Those four straight Super Bowl had to be one of the most agonizing happenings in sports history. Great job Lee.
