Amici Italian Restaurant, at the southern end of Main Street in Middletown, Connecticut, is a warm, friendly and fun Italian restaurant that can qualify as a family destination, a place for a dinner meeting, a party or a romantic night out for two. It's a rare Italian restaurant that is both authentic and accessible. There truly is something for everybody at Amici Restaurant in Middletown.

In the many times that I have eaten there, the wait staff itself is professional and competent without being too formal or stiff. Most of the time, I've been greeted by friendly and pleasant waitresses or waiters who seem eager to not only serve your food, but engage in easy banter without being over bearing.

The location of Amici Restaurant near the Middletown police station helps the overall ambiance. Wait, you might wonder, why would a location adjacent to a police station be somehow a good place for a restaurant? Well, for various reasons. That end of Middletown for years was not a place you'd want to be after dark. But much has changed with the police station now located there. There is an undeniable secure feeling in this area of Middletown now as walking around after dark near a police station is certainly a lot different than walking around to vacant storefronts or closed liquor stores.

Also, a night at Amici Restaurant can feel a bit like a night out in the big city. While Middletown, Connecticut does have a bustling downtown area, it is obviously not Boston or New York. But as the area that it is in thriving, there is certain energy in that area that was not there before.

But of course, when you eat out what you really care most about is the quality of the food. Amici Restaurant does a very good, sometimes great, job of Italian food. Amici Restaurant does appetizers very well. A signature appetizer are the Salmon and Crabcakes, which entail salmon and crab seasoned with Old Bay. Another favorite of mine is the Eggplant Rolletini, which is rolled eggplant stuffed with three types of cheeses and an onion aoili for dipping. Other appetizer selections include fried mozzarella, stuffed mushrooms and garlic bread.
