The Bourne Betrayal by Eric Van Lustbader is the fifth book featuring Robert Ludlum's amnesiac super spy Jason Bourne. Lustbader continues the page turning action and taut suspense began by Ludlum.

Jason Bourne's fractured memory is used against him once more in The Bourne Betrayal. Still in mourning over the death of his wife, Marie, Jason agrees to see a psychologist recommended by Martin Lindros, the only person Bourne trusts. Dr. Sunderland specializes in psychopharmacology relating to memory and could be the only one capable of stopping the crippling memory flashes Bourne is experiencing.

Minutes after leaving the Doctor's office Bourne's cell phone rings and Central Intelligence requests his help. All they will say is it is a Code Mesa situation, a Level One emergency involving Lindros. Bourne's hatred and distrust of C.I. is deep but his friendship and loyalty to Lindros is infinitely deeper.

Lindros has disappeared on a mission to Ethiopia where he was tracking down a shipment of atomic bomb components including highly advanced triggers and uranium. Bourne doesn't hesitate to agree to go after his friend. Not trusting the motives or competence of C.I. he makes it clear that it will be done his way.

Bourne sets out to destroy a terrorist group that holds Lindros prisoner and stop them from building a nuclear device. He doesn't know he is being manipulated by a mysterious terrorist known as Fadi, who has a personal grudge to settle with Bourne.

Violence explodes around Bourne's every move. He gets deceived by those he believes are allies, and assisted by friends he doesn't remember. The action is relentless page-to-page until the startling conclusion to the latest adventure of Jason Bourne.

Robert Ludlum wrote twenty-one novels before his death in 2001. His three book saga featuring Jason Bourne are among his finest. All three, The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum have been made into blockbuster movies starring Matt Damon in the title role. Ludlum also penned eighteen other novels of intrigue.
