The December issue of Vanity Fair is stirring up a storm with Brad Pitt, who is featured on the magazine's cover in his boxer shorts. Apparently Pitt had no knowledge of his hot commodity body being plastered on the front of the mag for the world to see. The shot was taken back in 2005 by Robert Wilson, who was working on a video project with Pitt. According to www.tmz.com, Vanity Fair claims that Pitt received a letter from Wilson stating that his picture would be used in the magazine. Pitt and his lawyers disagree.

I understand the legal issues and the discomfort of waking up and saying to yourself, "Not again. Not another magazine cover! Wait, did I take that picture?", but COME ON. Does Brad Pitt expect to never be seen? Does he think this is going to damage his career? If anything, it will help his career! If I were Brad Pitt, I'd be more worried about having run off with big lips Jolie to Africa while my wholesome ex-wife was sitting at home laughing at the idiocy of my actions. I think Brad should have a little chatty chat with Paris Hilton. Those two seem to think that they can take sexy pictures and make sex tapes and somehow those things will never make it into the general public. If Brad was so worried about someone seeing him half naked, he should not have taken the pictures at all!

WORD! Poor boxer-clad Brad! Whether he wanted more money for a cover shot or more privacy...both are ridiculous for a huge star like himself. I like your take on this.

I should have been on the cover of Vanity Fair in my underpants.

I think the point of his fit is that he didn't know the picture would be used for the cover, and he would have wanted to be paid more for pictures for the cover. He just wants more money, nothing more or less.

You're right, a real man wouldn't. And sadly I think women, as you said, can't recognize that a man who DOES pressure them is contributing to the cycle.

Yes ... although my man puts no pressure on me at all. A real man wouldn't. Sadly though, many women wouldn't recognize a REAL man. You might argue that if women stop posing, there would be no mags ..... a perpetual battle, I suppose. Fun thread.

Perhaps. But I think he was upset too about them using them against his will or without him knowing. But as to it not being the men's fault, I won't blame ONLY them, but they are PARTLY to blame. Women can pose and pose all they want, but if men continue to buy the magazines, then the women aren't going to stop. Men put a lot of pressure on women to stay thin and sexually attractive because if they aren't, the men have nothing to fantasize about! I guarantee that if men stopped contributing to the objectification, women would stop feeling the need to be objectified.

No doubt, Ive preached time and time again about how angry I am that woman feel the need to pose nude. Sadly though, I dont know that men are really to blame for this. Women are constantly competing with one another and I hold them accountable. I just think Pitt's anger about this is not because of a body image issue, but because of his newfound fatherhood. Im pretty sure he has posed topless before but now that he is such a "humanitarian", he is much too deep to have his half-naked body paraded on a magazine.

My point was, what is the big deal about a guy in his boxers? Yes, those women choose to be in the magazines but only because our society makes it appear that THAT means you are beautiful. I watched "Girls Next Door" one time, and Hef's girlfriends were hoping and praying to get in the centerfold because that meant they were "beautiful", and I think that is sad.

Selfish satisfaction? Are you referring to masterbation? Hmm, I'd hardly call that selfish. As to what a father would say about his daughter in Playboy... either he is ashamed that he raised her so poorly or he's proud that she made it big. Either way, Playboy paid her for HER decision. I cant stand Pitt either, but I don't think this is a feminist issue, I think it is just about Pitt wanting to uphold his new persona of a compassionate, generous and mature father. Annoying for sure, but unrelated to Maxim.
