How to Make Christmas Tree Ornaments Out of Applesauce and Cinnamon

I used to make these unusually “cinnamon” Christmas ornaments in Sunday school as a child. The Christmas tree ornaments are made out of simple everyday ingredients you probably have laying around the house. They are the perfect Christmas ornament to make with a Sunday school class because they are easy, affordable, and require some extensive drying time. Let them dry while the kids are in school all week and when they come back to Church the next week their cinnamon Christmas ornament swill be ready.

Now, you can use any cookie cutter to shape these cinnamon Christmas tree ornaments. Go ahead and use some cross and angels if you are doing this for a Sunday school craft project. Santa heads, candy cane cookie cutters, and even bell shaped cookie cutters are also great for this simple craft project.

To Make a Cinnamon Christmas tree ornament you Will Need:

1 cup applesauce (any brand)
4.12oz ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon of white glue (Elmer's is fine)
Rolling pin or a glass
Cookie cutters
toothpick
Metalcookie rack
Christmas ribbon
Puff paint (optional)

Now, the first thing to do is to Combine the applesauce, cinnamon and glue. These will combine to form a very stiff dough. Smaller children may need help with this. You could mix this together in a blender though and simply have the kids help you measure out the ingredients. 

Now, Roll the cinnamon and applesauce dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. This is very similar to clay or play dough.
You can cut the applesauce and cinnamon dough with any of your Christmas cookie cutters.
You can make a hole for a ribbon with a toothpick or pencil point.

Now, you need to Place the cinnamon and applesauce Christmas tree ornament on a wire rack and let dry for at least three days. I like to use a simple cookie rack for this step of the process. You could also use a wire window screen. You won’t need those in your window during the winter!
