Hitting the Trails and Slopes of Fort Collins, Colorado

Two of my brothers used to work as engineers for a firm that moved them to Fort Collins, Colorado. This was years ago when I was around 15 years old. To this day, I've never been downhill skiing, and to be honest, I have no interest. Give me a beach and I’m set. The snow can stay where it's at, on top of the mountains!

But one year I went to visit one of my brothers who took me cross country skiing. He owned skis and gave me a quick run down on what to do. All I remember was that I started out feeling somewhat cold, but ended up very hot and sweaty, not to mention somewhat sunburned on my face. But what fun!

Through the snow-covered hills and around the pines we swished about. The air was crisp and the sunlight bright. I remember looking for inclines and declines for a short thrill. Perhaps I longed for downhill skiing at those moments, but truly air lifts would give me a heart attack and if I fell, I would undoubtedly become a huge snowball rolling toward disaster. I know I'd end up causing an avalanche!

Fort Collins is a very quaint town with nice homes, nice people and great mountains. I spent many days up in the mountains trout fishing with my dad, trying to get in the water with my mom (too dang cold) and getting dizzy and lightheaded from the altitudes.

Things to do in Fort Collins

If you’re not into cross country skiing, there are plenty of other activities for tourists. These include: biking, golfing, strolling through art galleries and museums, hiking, shopping and site seeing around town and country.

Fort Collins is known for having three major trails that can be used for biking, jogging, walking, or skating. The trails are well-kept and clean, even during the winter. Snow is removed and it’s known for leisurely strolls by residents and tourists.

The Poudre Trail
