Your business is a part of your life correct? Without it you would not have the means to take care of the basic necessities of life. So when you take the measures to protect your business, you take the measures to protect areas of your life as well.

Many websites, network groups, online education centers, boot camps and more have been getting blasted by theft lately. People and many of them are work at home moms have been taking advantage of the good graces of many networks and utilizing their names, copy, etc., to further their own business.

On an episode of  WAHM Talk with one of my mentors, Kelly McCausey, she interviewed two work-at-home moms whose websites were plagiarized. It saddened my heart, but did not shock me in the least.

Some of the thieves claim they did not know that it was wrong or that they hired someone to create a site and they had no idea it was stolen. I beg to differ, and so do many other business owners. Why?

There are so many ways to find out if a concept belongs to someone else. All you have to do is some research to find out. It does not take a lawyer, or rocket scientist to figure it out. There are basic guidelines to running a business and illegal use of someone else’s copy, site, logo, name, etc., is one of the rules we all must follow. A person who says they do not know it is wrong, is a person I would steer clear of.

The bottom line here is that when one takes any part of a concept of a website, network group it is a theft. There is no way to sugar coat it and no way to get around it. Stealing is stealing, cut and dry.

There does not need to be any registered information in the Copyright or Trademark Libraries for something to legally belong to someone else. Yes, having it registered is good, but not necessary. However, just because it may not be registered, does that mean it is ok to take?

There are Business Ethics, we all must adhere to. Theft is not ethical.
