I wish I knew then
What I believe I know now
About fathering.

I should have, would have
Been much better at it then-
The past doesn't change.

Redeemed by grandkids
Whose mother suffered the price
Of my younger years.

I seek forgiveness
For the things I cannot change-
Changing what I can.

Wow! I wonder if there is such a thing as a parent who doesn't wish he/she could have done a better job. I love this poem because I have thought the same things about myself.

Wow, vewry powerful words! I too would change many things and am grateful my daughters have turned out as well as they have. And yes, we do try to make amends with our grandchildren. sigh!!
