Victoria's Secret Supermodel Adriana Lima Engaged to Marko Jaric

After a nine-month romance, Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric and Brazilian beauty Adriana Lima announced their engagement. Jaric, shooting guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, proposed to Lima, supermodel and Victoria's Secret alum, on her 27th birthday. It will be the first marriage for both.

"He asked and she said yes. They are both incredibly happy and couldn't be more in love," publicist James Weir announced in a statement to People Magazine.

The public nature of Adriana Lima and Marko Jaric's careers prompted the couple to date under the radar until November of 2007. Several months after the start of their relationship, Lima and Jaric were outed by the paparazzi.

The engagement is the latest in a series of romantic mergers between the worlds of fashion and sports. On March 31, tennis star Andy Roddick found his love match with swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker following nearly a year of courtship. The couple plans to marry next year.

Like Lima and Jaric, Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker attempted to avoid the omnipresent media attention surrounding celebrity pairings. For the most part, the low key couple was successful. However, soon after their engagement, whispers about a pregnancy and shot gun marriage began. On his official blog, Roddick wrote, "We have been laughing at some of the stuff we have seen... ha ha... I mean really? All this gossip and stuff is out of my comfort zone, and I just dint [sic] get it really."

Try as they might to hide from the media spotlight, there continues to be a fascination with pairings between the buff and the beautiful.
