You want to live in a van? Today's economic situation has become a bit much to deal with and being portable offers you so many advantages it just makes sense. Your in luck, the choices in vehicles that can accommodate your new adventure comfortably as well as economically has never been better.

The standard cargo van such as the Ford E class and the Chevrolet Express class have been the mainstay of The Stealth Van Dweller life style for years. With millions on the road, both for commercial and pleasure use, finding a well maintained used example has always been easy.

These work horse machines, though acceptable as mobile dwellings, do have one issue when it comes to comfort. With their low profile roof line the ability to stand up full height is impossible. Except for those who might be vertically challenged, you must be bent over when standing inside these trucks. We all know the inconvenience of trying to wiggle into a pair of jeans while lying down. For those of us who are carrying a few extra pounds, and have the stiffness that comes with many years and many miles under our belt, this simple task of getting dressed can be quite a challenge within the confines of your Standard Cargo Van.

Enter the new generation of cargo vans, well accepted in Europe and countries around the world, they have finally made their way into the commercial world of companies in the good old U.S.A. The Sprinter, originally offered in Europe and pretty much everywhere else except here, was introduced by Mercedes Benz. It came on the market around the world in 1995. Finally a doable van that offers a full stand up height interior combined with greatly improved economy.

Marketed in the U.S. under the Freightliner name since 2001, and now also the Dodge brand since 2003, the Sprinter has exploded on the commercial cargo van scene with a more economical and roomier truck to compete with Ford and Chevy. Wikipedia has the Full History of the Sprinter Van which includes lots of interesting facts.

Great review! My parents own a 1985 Dodge B-Series (Ram) which still runs well; they bought it brand new. The Sprinter, which replaced the B-series vans in the Dodge lineup looks very contemporary, but I was curious as to the quality and comfort of the Sprinter. I love the idea of being able to stand up in the Sprinter. I have not done that in our Dodge van since I was about eight years old(!)
