The Whirlpool Corporation has given us many great advances in home appliances.  However, there have been several things that everyone wishes they would create, but they haven’t - until now.  Surely, everyone is aware of the two different types of washing machines.  There is the traditional “top-load” washer, which in a nutshell is the tradition type of washing machine that your mother used and energy wise, it uses around 40 to 50 gallons of water per load, and overall, isn’t the most efficient way to clean your clothes.  And then there is the “Front-Load” washing machines.  Again, in a nutshell, these are the “newer” type of washing machines, and energy wise it uses anywhere between 10 and 15 galls of water per load, thus making it VERY energy efficient.  However, the only downfall to these machines is the way that they appear, and the way the clothes enter and leave the unit.  Why couldn’t manufactures make a washing machine that was as efficient as a front-load washing machine, however, carried the traditional look and feel of a the comfortable top-load machines.

Well, Whirlpool has understood this need, and has actually created a washing machine that looks like the standard top-load machines, however it also has the efficiency of the front-load machines.  And the new washing machine that I am talking about is the Cabrio series by Whirlpool.  This washing machine looks and appears to be just as normal as a traditional washing machine.  However, it acts like nothing in the world.  On the inside it works just like a front-load washing machine, giving you the energy saving qualities that make the front loaders so popular.

Takeaways
  • Uses a Direct Wash System
  • Is 4.5 Cubic Feet
  • Only uses around 20 gallons of water
Did You Know?
This machine does not use an agitator to move the clothes around in the wash.

Sure glad I am doing my research before I went and bought. This seemed like a good deal, but I will steer clear of itnow. Sorry for your losses, at least you saved one family.

I do not understand why a Kenmore from Sears can last about 20 yrs. and a very expensive Whirlpool Cabrio washer last slightly longer than the one year warranty. I did not like this washer from the getgo as the clothes do not seem to come out clean, however, now I am really pissed facing a large repair bill. Never again Whirlpool. You've cooked your own goose with me.

I LOVED the Cabrio washer when I first bought it, I've had it for a year and a half now. But the last 5 months it's been hell trying to do laundry, having the same problems I've been reading from everyone else- unit won't drain, mulitple service calls, parts are unavailable at this time (and they don't know when they will be) and repairmen don't seem to know anything about the unit. I might as well go beat my clothes on a rock, it would be less irritating. Like Ray M, I bought my unit at Lowe's along with the extended warranty and they are refunding the full purchase price so I can replace the unit. So for all of you out there who will have to replace these pieces of junk, BUY AT LOWE'S- they really stand behind their warranty!

It cost me 179.00 for a repairman to tell me he thinks we use to much soap!!! Only because he would not admit he didnt know what was wrong with it. It gets stuck on wash and will not rinse and displays ld. But, of course it only does it every 3rd load or so. So we let it sit for a couple hour stopping by to curse at it a couple times, then cross our fingers, put it on drain and spin and if we are lucky it will work, if not we have to ring out the cloths by hand. Im about ready to put it outside with a free sign and go old school with a washboard and ringer!!! Will never ever ever buy whirpool again.

Cabrio uses less water and your drying time is less because of the high spin cycle, but your clothes are not clean. the macine will not even get dog hair off the clothes or bed sheets. MY old GE machine with agitator did better. I would not recommend this washer amd whirlpool shold do something.

Our Whirlpool Cabrio washer, now 14 months old, just BLEW UP!!! The drum spun around so hard that the washer bulges on all sides, springs and parts blew out, the water emptied, the drum ended up on the floor!!! A&E, believe it or not, will NOT replace the washer, even with the extended warrenty that we have. They think they can rebuild it.

I HATE MY CABRIO WASHER. At 1 yera & 7 months. The pump motor & control board are toast. It is no wonder since the entire underside of the washer top is RUST RUST RUST. Any why....because it is a DESIGN DEFECT. Nothing to stop the spinning water from entering the contraol panel and making the machine self destruct. They have a definite design defect. File complaints with Whirlpool, BBB, Atty Gen office and ANY consumer Action group you can get to listen Ther will be a class action suit soon!!!!!!!!!!! Of this I have no doubt. Keep your paper trail and document.document...document. The paper is mightier than the sword!!!
