Awkward corners in a home present a creative design challenge. Corners will quickly become your favorite places to decorate when you apply these simple and quick home decor tips. Home furnishing stores and home decor stores have become more savvy in recent years, recognizing the consumer's need and desire to decorate awkward corners. There are inexpensive home decor items your buy, and other that you can easily assemble yourself.

Best Uses for Awkward Corners in a Home

Use one of these ideas, or a combination, to make the best use of the awkward corners in your home.

Create a Faux Window With Window Treatments

Some upscale South Florida apartments use a unique architectural feature: the corner window. In your home's awkward corners, you can crate the illusion of a corner window when you install two sets of small window treatments in the corner of a home. The window treatments will give the illusion of a corner window.

Creating a faux window with widow treatments is the best way to create design interest in an otherwise boring corner. The lower corner space can still be put to good use with one of of the other home decor tips for awkward corners.

Use a Corner Bookshelf

Purchase a tall, free-standing corner bookshelf for the awkward corner in your home. The bookshelf can be used to store more than books. Use the corner bookshelf to house file boxes in an office, or to store decorative tea pots in the kitchen or dining room.

Install Easy Corner Bookshelves

A cheaper solution to using an awkward corner in a home is to install an eye-height corner shelf. A corner shelf is easy to install. The corner shelf can be placed on small mounting brackets.

Place an interesting photo or other light decorative object on the shelf to make an awkward and ugly duckling corner turn into a beautiful swan.

Use the Corner as a Small Garden Display

A well-lit corner is also an ideal place to store small plants. Create an indoor garden with a corner plant rack. In the kitchen, use the awkward corner to become the new home of your indoor herb garden.

Excellent ideas! Now I know what to do with those awkward corners besides use them as storage space for my dust bunnies :) Besides, that trend of using spare space for dust bunny storage is so yesterday anyway. ;) It is time for me to get a more updated look!
