Why is it that Heather Graham did not become a big star? And why is she never mentioned on those hottest women lists? I cannot be the only one who thinks Graham is incredibly beautiful with huge soulful blue eyes. It is not my imagination that her figure is off the charts. Anyone who saw her as "Rollergirl" in "Boogie Nights" can attest to that spectacular vision. But lately, Graham seems to be fading away and she is on;y 38. Her heavily promoted ABC comedy series two seasons ago was a ratings bust. Graham's recent offerings are indies popping up on cable or in limited theatrical release. Her looks are not gone. She is as beautiful as ever. And it is not as if Graham's only talent is being a shapely blond. Graham has proven a competent actress and charming light comedienne.
The problem is she did not have that smash hit after her breakthrough as Felicity Shagwell in "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" in 1999. Graham was already a long time pro working her way up through small parts and indies. She was the female lead in the 1996 cult hit "Swingers" and reaaly got attention for "Boogie Nights" a year later. Graham got her shot in two high profile films, "Lost in Space" (1998) and "Bowfinger" (1999), which ultimately did nothing for her career. Then "Austin Powers" seemed to do the trick.
Graham immediately starred in two romantic comedies which is a mistake all young actresses make. It is like they go for the big paycheck without realizing these films are usually bad. "Committed" (2000) and "Say It Isn't So" (2001) went nowhere despite Graham acquitting herself in delightful fashion. She attempted a change of pace playing an English prostitute in the Victorian era thriller "From Hell" (2001) starring Johnny Depp. Another miss.
