You cannot help but be enchanted upon your first glimpse of the Gallery Inn. Undoubtedly, the location will speak to you of the passionate getaway you'll experience in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Gallery Inn, long revered as a romantic destination, sits overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the historic city.

Upon arrival, a touch of Europe echoes throughout the inn with the displays of antiques and exquisite artwork. Award-winning artist and host Jan D'Esopo has created various paintings and sculptures, making the Gallery Inn an extraordinary place to stay. D'Esopo's art has been a fixture in the Old San Juan area and the inn since she moved to Puerto Rico in 1961. Today, D'Esopo teaches art to aspiring artists, facilitates workshops with artists from around the world, and with her husband Manuco, welcomes and entertains guests at the Gallery Inn.

The Gallery Inn offers 22 individually decorated guest rooms. Each is so unique that the D'Esopos named them after relatives rather than simply assigning them numbers. The spacious, air-conditioned rooms are complete with private bath, telephone, and Tempur-Pedic, Swedish-design mattress and pillows. There are books, antiques, and paintings as well as sculptures that bear D'Esopo's personal, artistic flair. Some of the rooms also include balcony, terrace, and Jacuzzi.

The Gallery Inn is not just a place to rest your head after a day of sightseeing around historic Old San Juan-it is very much a part of the history and flavor of the area. Take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful gardens and decks that abound at the Inn,and take in the splendid views of the ocean or surrounding town. Like everything else here, these decks are not typical places to sit under the sun. Enclosed by ancient walls, the inn is filled with plentiful combinations of exotic flowers and artwork. If your timing is right, Jan and Manuco's colorful, exotic tropical birds may entertain you.

I've always wanted to go to Peurto Rico. The beauty, the history... but it's the prices that stop me.
