One upcoming trends for home decorating centers around vibrant orange. Because orange can be a scary color to use in a large room in the home, experiment with this energetic color in a small room, like the foyer. Included are ideas on creating both a functional foyer and an orange, socially-minded space.

Decorating Ideas for a Foyer: Function First

Any time you decorate or re-decorate a foyer, function should fall first on your list. A foyer, should serve both entering and exiting functions.

Foyers and Quick Exits

A foyer should be the place where you can store last-minute objects you need before leaving the house. Make a place for keys, spare keys and visitor's keys. Use a hanging key rack, or provide a decorative key bowl. Another option is to use a magnetic panel with magnetic hooks.

A foyer may also be the place where last-minute accessories including a small, wearable purse or extra pairs of sunglasses are stored. Include a small table with a drawer to hide small items away.

Welcome and Welcome Home

A small table with a drawer is a multi-purpose must for any foyer. A small table provides a needed flat surface when you need to put items down when you walk i the door.

A small table can also be home to a welcoming vase of fresh flowers, or small decorative items that make you smile when you walk in the door.

A functional foyer may also be the place where guests leave their shoes and coats, if not coat closet exists in the home.

Decorating Ideas for a Foyer: Energetic Orange

Energetic orange is a hot color for creating accents in a foyer. Orange, when used in moderation, can create vibrant energy. When you walk in an energetic orange foyer, you feel happy to be in the space. As you leave the house through the foyer, the energetic orange give you a slice of sunshine before you walk out the door.

Orange is a social color, which is friendly and welcoming.

Consider artwork which has bold orange designs. Or incorporate orange vases into the foyer decor.

My son has been vindicated! We painted his room when he was 8 and he wanted it his favorite color-orange- but ultimately decided on white walls with a slight tint and bright orange trim.

I need to do my whole house in orange, by the time I make it home after work, I just want to sleep. Thanks for all the tips. I'm definitely going to try to implement some of the feng shui tips. I need energy flow like nobody's business.
