Mindy McCready was living the dream of thousands of talented, beautiful, wanna be country music stars. For some reason though, Mindy McCready is failing to take advantage of the gift that has been given to her. Trouble seems to be following Mindy McCready wherever she goes these days. To say that Mindy she seems to be a woman whose life seems to be slipping beyond her control is an understatement.

McCready first broke into country music when she was 18. She got lucky when she met Nashville producer/songwriter Norro Wilson who was impressed by her talent. Wilson sent her demo tape to David Malloy, another Nashville producer. He helped Mindy McCready cut her first record and come up with a record deal. Her debut album, Ten Thousand Angels, was released in 1996 and went gold a year later.

Singles such as "Guys Do It All The Time," made her an instant star in the world of country music but she has sense found it hard to equal that earlier success. In 2002 after a failed album, Capital records dropped Mindy McCready out of disappointment over the lack of success of album sales.

Her hit album, "A Thousand Angels" was a collection of songs that gave the impression that McCready would turn into an icon of independence and self-reliance. Her life over the last year has shown her to be anything but that and more than likely a woman suffering severe emotional distress and the syndrome that so many battered women find themselves victims of.

The problems started in August of 2004 when Mindy McCready was arrested and charged with one count of prescription drug fraud, which is a class D felony. She had presented a fraudulent prescription for the drug OxyContin in February 2004 to a pharmacy in Brentwood, Tennessee. The prescription was filled and she left the pharmacy with the OxyContin.

McCready plead guilty in that case on November 29, 2004. She was fined $4,000, sentenced to three years supervised probation and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

What a nicely written piece, Cathy Meyer. I liked how you talked about how everyone gets themselves in trouble at some point in their lives but most are equipped to recognize that we made a mistake.. That is so true. Most people have made poor decisions and learned from them.. Nobody is perfect, not even rich, famous celebrities. I just read she is going to jail for 60 days for probation violation. She seems to be the Britney Spears of country music. Hopefully someone cares enough about her to help her get into treatment and break the ties that bind her. I read she doesn't even have custody of her child anymore .. She has hit rock bottom at this point. It is up to her.. The ball is in her court.. Does she want to live? and be free? Or does she want to die early leaving a young child mother-less? Or end up spending a large amount of her life in jail?

Mark, you are the one who needs a reality check. He sure did leave her face in a mess when he "grabbed her around the throat." He spent more than a moment or 2 battering her and it showed in all the photos. As for me needing permission to write about the incident, you are wrong but that doesn't surprise me at all.

Mark it takes less than 1/100of a second to kill someone. A couple of seconds was too long...End of Story.

Some sound advice for writers out there. If you do not have permission to write a story about somone... don't do it. Their personal life is nothing to mess around with... and doing this is not SAFE. Cathy Meyer needs to do a reality check. If Billy was trying to kill Mindy she would have been dead. When a person decides they want to kill another person it happens. He was angry and grabbed her by the throat in a fit of anger. He realized after a moment or 2 he was out of control and let go of her. End of story!

The human mind is a strange thing... pushed far enough and people do things they would never even have considered doing. Put anyone under the right amount of mental stress and just about anything can happen... then if you add drugs to try and escape the stress but the stress does not seem to ease up... well then you take more drugs... then parts of the mind decide to shut down, particularly the part of the mind that that is suppose to invoke reason. The part of the mind that almost never shuts down is the part of the mind that deals with the amount of anger that accumulates. The end result is temporary insanity. Whatever or whoever was causing this environment of stress and pain for either or is responsible for what happened in the end. A man is in love and thinks his life is complete and he experiences what he thinks is a dream come true only to find out that he was lied 2 and that his litle world is about to be shattered and his friends and family are going to think he was a fool. this is a travesty of justice she has not been perfect however their are far more average citizens who have done far worse and been punished less she was addicted to drugs... if it was an average citizen it would not be an issue only celebrities or robbers get a year in jail

What's happened to her lately? Well as of July 2007, she's back in jail. First she was arrested in FL for physically attacking her own mother. Then after bonding out of jail in FL and returning to Nashville she was arrested for violating her probation in TN where I believe she has been sitting waiting on her Sept. 7 hearing in Franklin, TN. The girl's a mess! She refuses to see that she is responsible for any of her unlawful doings, in her mind it's always someone elses fault.

Mindy McCready is one one the most saddest women I've ever seen. Mindy is actually living her country songs. I was wondering what happened to her lately.

Her momma used to dress her up, when she was just a little girl. Powder and make-up and a cheap dress, cheaper than a sitter at home.

great article....the truth about all the "fuzziness" is coming....I know....it's way out there. I'd say the analysis in this article is spot on.
