During the past weeks, gas prices have risen about 20 to 30 cents a week. In California alone, gas prices are $4.80 to 4.95. It is certain that gas prices are not decreasing and will be more than $5 dollars very soon. Unfortunately, this is affecting our economy and many American families in almost very state. If gas prices continue to rise other consequences will continue to happen. Grocery prices and store prices are also going up alongside gas. Families and individuals are spending less time on "Fun Money" and buying extravagant things. Therefore, other businesses are hurting especially the travel industry. If Gas Prices continue to rise our economy will continue to get worse because people won't be able to afford the necessities that they need. Another thing is the fact that minimum wage is barely increasing. It is hard to live in our society when a person is making $8 or below an hour. Chevron, Shell, Arco, and all the gas companies report having huge increases in profits but at what costs? Something is wrong when you are spending more money on gas a month then rent.
Hopefully things will improve, and companies will take responsibility to intervene in this matter. Car companies that make hybrids are definitely helping, and more people are buying cars like a Civic or Prius. However, if we want to stop the high gas price increases everyone has to step up to create change. Our government has to start intervening and create policies to control gas prices. We as individuals have to start being more active politically, socially, and environmentally.
Things like recycling, being environmentally aware, car pooling, and voting are very important towards change on gas prices. Buying a hybrid or converting your car into a biodiesel vehicle can also help. Taking public transportation, walking, biking can also help survive the gas crisis. The important thing that everyone should know is that creating change is the responsibility of everyone. If we don't all try to do something even a little bit our economy will continue to suffer and knowing that is a scary thing.
