Dog Shampoo Substitutes

When your dog is beginning to smell like a dirty canine and you recently gave him a bath, it can be a little frustrating. After all, it is not good to bathe a dog too often. A dog should be bathed about once
a month to avoid dry skin and other issues caused by too many baths. Shampoo substitutes can keep a dog smelling fresh until the next bath, or at least good enough to spend time with the family. No one wants to cuddle with a smelly dog, and the following shampoo substitutes will help you keep your four-legged family member smelling good until it is time for another bath.

Baby Wipes are Fantastic Shampoo Substitutes

Wet wipes meant for babies are good for far more than cleaning baby's bottoms. Since they are gentle enough for a baby's delicate skin, they are ideal for giving Rover a sponge bath. Keep baby wipes on hand to keep your dog clean and smelling fresh in between baths. Baby wipes are fantastic substitutes for dog shampoo when it is not quite bath time. Pet stores sell overpriced wipes especially for dogs, but they are not necessary. Layer two or three baby wipes and they are just as thick and just as effective as costly pet wipes.

Try Baking Soda in Between Baths

One of the best dog shampoo substitutes is baking soda. In between baths, work it into the fur and down to the skin. Brush the coat thoroughly, and you will be surprised by how good your dog looks and smells. His fur will look clean, and more importantly he will smell much better.

Ground Rolled Oats for Dry Shampoo

If you do not have baking soda on hand, try grinding dry rolled oats in the blender until they turn into a fine powder. The rolled oats will absorb oil, dirt, and doggy odor, and you will be able to tolerate being around your dog until it is time for a bath. When searching for shampoo substitutes, many people prefer ground rolled oats over baking soda. Give this shampoo substitute a try, and chances are you will prefer this substitute that will help keep your dog smelling fresh for weeks on end.

Now these are some great ideas! I've used baby wipes on my dogs, lots of times. But have never thought about baking soda. I've put it in their bathwater, but not used it alone. Gotta try these. Thanks.

These are great ideas. However do any help with controlling insects? I don't want to overtreat my baby!
