Top Fantasy Football Running Backs for the 2008 Season

Ok it's that time of year again, Fantasy Football season is rapidly approaching and the 2008 season should be a good one. This article is about most people's number 1 Fantasy Football draft targets, the Running back. I have geared this towards people drafting a new team, but it could be
useful in Fantasy Football Keeper Leagues as well.

Something to keep in mind of course is the dreaded 2 running back or platoon approach so many teams are using now. This keeps some top fantasy running backs from getting as many carries as they otherwise might. However it does tend to keep them fresh and. possibly injury free. Although Adrian Peterson was injured last season while in a rotation with Chester Taylor with the Minnesota Vikings. So here is my list of the top Fantasy Football Running Backs for the 2008 season.

1- Ladainian Tomlinson is of course ranked number one on my list as well as most others you will see. He is a yards and touchdown machine on the ground and adds receptions for more yards and scores. The best and most complete back in the NFL. He will get even more carries now that Michael Turner has joined the Atlanta Falcons. The fact that Phillip Rivers has another year of experience under his belt helps. Not to mention that the San Diego Chargers will have Chris Chambers all season plus training camp. This combined with a healthy Antonio Gates will diversify the offense and take pressure off of Tomlinson

2- Brian Westbrook is my number 2 choice at running back for the 2008 season. I don't think he is going to become injury prone but that is of some concern. While at 5 feet 10 inches tall he isn't big, he is tough. His capacity for the big play and being a bigger part in the passing game makes me rank him higher on the list than some younger backs.

3- Adrian Peterson just exploded into the NFL and Fantasy Football last season. He rushed for 1,341 yards and an incredible 5.6 average and 12 touchdowns. Plus he had another amazing 14.1 yard per catch average and all this in 14 games. Injury concerns and his lack of a great team keep him from being number 1 on my list. He does share time with Chestor Taylor but I don't think he will suffer from lack of carriers.

The thing that scares me about Steven Jackson is the fact that he can have these games where he has three fumbles if memory serves and then it gets in his head. Great list Randy.

You put a lot of work in this! I guess it is not so much work when you love the game. You will have to do a follow-up of how your picks fared.
