Answers

1. None. There are no Constitutional requirements governing the appointment of the Speaker. In theory, the House could appoint the town drunk, or the village idiot (which seems more appropriate) as its Speaker. The Speaker is also the second in line (after the Vice President) in succession should the President die in office. See Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution.

2. The prophet Elijah

3. Walt Disney

4. Lewis Carroll (author of Alice in Wonderland)

5. Henry Kissinger

6. The fortress of Masada

7. 1,330 (almost 2 strikeouts for each home run)

8. The Complete Angler; or The Contemplative Man's Recreation, by Izzak Walton, in continuous publication since 1653.

9. French Poodle (symbolic of the damages brought about by the Napoleonic Wars)

10. George VI (1939)

Talk about lame . . . I have a BA in History, am a real history nut, and I only got Masada, although I knew #1 was a trick question. Nice Job.
