Hundreds of articles, debates and testimonials have been made against gay marriage and to this very day, I still cannot understand why people are against it, religious views or otherwise. There is the separation of church and state to deal with, which should make any religious argument moot in the discussion when it comes to legal terms. Disregarding an entire group of people simply because who they are is a classic example of prejudice, which the United States is supposed to be free of. So why is everyone so upset about it?

The sanctity of marriage argument doesn't make any sense in my opinion. Besides, if you don't want people of the same sex to marry, then don't marry someone of the same sex, it is as simple as that. The fact that people will point to religion and place such a heavy emphasis on what they believe is akin to forcing you religion upon someone, which is a fundamental wrong that was supposed to be eliminated with the advent of this nation. Many, undoubtedly, would call this another hypocrisy of our democracy.

'Between a man and a woman.' Has anyone complained about the polygamy still existing in Utah among other places? I suppose as long as people are only offended by the thought of sodomy (which people seem to gravitate towards whenever homosexuality is brought up, as if people are gay merely to have sex). 'It isn't natural.' Two men or two women cannot have children, this is true, but what does this have to do with being able to marry? If a man who is sterile or a woman who cannot bear children want to marry, should they be exempt because they too cannot have children?

A whole lot of people have complained about the polygamy in Utah. It's against the law and there have been no credible efforts to change that. The main argument you must refute is the "slippery slope" argument. Unless society can be sure it will end at gay marriage, it doesn't have any hope of being mainstream. Most people might accept gay marriage, but they will not accept marriage to an 8 year old or an animal and that is where this will end up.
