Severe weather moved through the state of New York on Monday, leaving thousands of customers without power in two areas. The first power outage struck the borough of Brooklyn in New York City just 8.30 pm EDT. A ConEdison spokeswoman told The News Wire that at least 3,500 customers were without power as a result of downed wires. She said the incident was reported to be in the area of 76th street. A level 1 mobilization of the New York Police department was called to ensure safety in the affected area.
A separated power failure in Chester County, New York at the same time left up to 5,000 customers without power. The ConEdison spokeswoman said there were scattered power outages in the western part of Chester County.
There were no immediate reports of incidents during the power outage and it was not clear when power was expected to be restored.
