Father's Day

Another Great Year!

Father's Day has always been a special day for me. Before I was a father myself, I always looked forward to treating my dad to a special day. My mother would fix his favorite meal and all of us children, or at least most of us children, would be on hand to give him whatever gift we could
come up with. One year I got him a wall hanging wooden plaque that had a barometer, thermometer, and a clock on it. He wasn't interested much in the weather, but being a great dad he said, "Thanks, son" and smiled. Six years ago next weekend, I lost my father to diabetes, but by that time I had become a father myself. Sure, I miss seeing my dad and knowing that he was there always gave me a sense of relief.

This year things were different at my home. If you've read any of my previous works, then you know I have an old fashioned sense of duty and honor. On Mother's Day, the children and I really went overboard treating my wife to a great day. This year, my wife picked up the torch and did Father's Day up great for me. Since my birthday falls on the 16th of June and this year Father's Day was on a Sunday, June 15th, we tried to have a joint celebration at my brother-in-law's house. We had planned an adult party complete with a bonfire, however it did not happen. It all fell through.

Not to worry, my wife, Michelle, had a great Sunday, Father's Day, all planned out. I was given free reign to pick what meals I had and when the children would give me my gifts. We usually do not have extra money for Father's Day or my birthday, but this year that wonderful wife of mine managed to hoard some dollars back. My son gave me a mini-lantern for camping. He is a Cub Scout and I am his Den Leader and we go to a lot of campouts in the Summer. It was a wonderful gift.

My youngest daughter, Gina, gave me a stapler for my home office. It was a Spider-man stapler and I love it. My oldest, Kayla, brought me a "Harry Potter" tin box. It is shaped like an open book. I love tin boxes, they are great for storing mementos, pictures, and stuff in. For the first time in years, I had a great Father's Day.
