Mozilla Team Set to Launch Firefox 3.0

In a few days, the members at Mozilla will launch their latest version of Firefox, version 3.0. What once seemed liked an insurmountable mountain to climb; Mozilla has found a way with their Firefox browser to put a dent into the Microsoft I.E. empire.

Mozilla's current version (2.0) currently holds a 45% share of internet web browsers these days up 20% from a few years ago. According to Mozilla, Firefox accounts for over 180 million users around the globe and can run on Macs,

Linux and Windows.

According to David Firth of The Australian, "The people at Mozilla are so excited about version 3." Firth continues, "They have already dubbed it Download Day, and are asking visitors to go to the Mozilla website and pledge to download it in the first 24 hours."

So why does all this excitement exist? Firefox 3.0 includes a variety of new features and upgrades over its 2.0 predecessor. To start Firefox 3.0 is faster than 2.0 and Firth believes it rivals Apple's Safari and Norway's Opera.

Here are some other features you can look forward to. Labeled the "awesome bar", it is the textbox area where you would normally enter a web address. As you begin to type, Firefox 3.0 will bring up a list of suggested websites and web references that closely match what you are looking for. To make this "awesome bar" even more "awesome", as an added bonus when the suggested sites and references come up they place stars next to them that you can click on and bookmark the information. Unlike other web browsers and their 2.0 version, bookmarks will now be saved in a database. This will allow users to easily find and organize them.

Firefox 3.0 allows you to zoom in the whole page of the website you are looking at as opposed to other browsers that only zoom the text. Firefox does a nice job of increasing the page equally between text and images.

Although not new to some other browsers, Firefox's 3.0 has upgraded the ability to resume downloads over its 2.0 counter part. The new 3.0 will pick up where the download left off regardless of what interrupted it in the first place.
