10. Requiem for a Dream - This movie, based on the book by Hubert Selby, Jr. and directed by Darren Aronofsky, is a drug movie, which is where the "trippy" factor comes in. However, it's more straightforward than other drug movies, realistically depicting what the life of a heroin addict is like. It's terribly depressing. But that realistic portrayal is why I've listed it number 10--some of the drug sequences are pretty trippy, especially scenes in which the mom of one of the heroin addicts messes with the doses of her prescribed amphetamines and has some pretty scary reactions. Still, the film does a good job of showing it like it is (from what I've heard--I've never tried heroin or amphetamines).

9. Adaptation - At the beginning of this film, we see that it is, in fact, partly about the film's screenwriter--Charlie Kaufman (played by Nicholas Cage).

The film tells the story of Kaufman's efforts to adapt the book "The Orchid Thief" by Susan Orlean into a movie. Kaufman really was trying to write an adaptation of the book, but ended up writing himself into said adaptation--that's pretty trippy, right?

The film still touches upon aspects of "The Orchid Thief." Chris Cooper plays John Laroche, the subject of the book, and earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Meryl Streep plays the author of the book, Susan Orlean.

In addition to playing Charlie Kaufman, Cage also plays his fictional twin brother, Donald Kaufman.

8.Being John Malkovich - This movie was also written by Charlie Kaufman, but he isn't a character in it as he is in "Adaptation."

In the movie, John Cusack plays Craig Schwartz, a struggling puppeteer who inadvertently discovers a gateway into the mind of John Malkovich. Yes, that's correct--if you enter this doorway, you find your consciousness transmitted to the body of John Malkovich. If that's not a trip, what is?

The movie also features Cameron Diaz, Catherine Keener, and, of course, John Malkovich plays John Malkovich.
