The economy and spending money is very tight this year. People wanting to hire building services for small projects really do not need to. Many people have excess things that they would love to display on shelves. Do not be afraid if you have never done this before. If you follow these steps, you will have your own custom shelves anywhere you would like in your house. Do not pay money for other people to build your shelves when you can easily do it yourself.

There are different styles you can have with your shelf. I suggest using a strip of metal because this is the easiest and most practical way to build the shelf. First you will need to know how long you would like your metal strip to be. From my general experience with custom shelves, they are usually precut at certain lengths. However, you can have it custom cut, which you can do yourself if you have a hacksaw, although most people do not. I personally recommend that use sixteen inches so it is the same distance between the wall studs. It is paramount to secure each metal strip accurately by putting the screws directly into the wall studs. Now think how many shelves you will never. Remember it is recommended to have one bracket for each wall strip and shelf.

Now you are ready for the shelves. If you are concerned about where to buy them, Home Depot and Lowes carry them along with local hardware stores. Make sure the width of the shelf fits well with the bracket width. Remember now that you want to secure the metal ships in a vertical matter on your wall. It will look great if you space them equidistant from one another. Check that they are level and that one is not higher than the other. Once you are sure everything is good, you can begin to complete your custom shelf.

The strip should have drilled holes in it already. Now make sure the strips can be attached to the wall with a two by four stud. This is important because you do not want your shelves to collapse with the things you are going to display on your wall. You will need to drill a hole in the wall. Using the best fitting screw, screw it in the already drilled hole. Continue to fasten the screw until it tightens and it is really well secured.
