Accent Wall Painting Techniques: Falling Leaves Nature Scene

DIY Home Decorating

Bring nature home when you create a falling leaves scene with this accent wall painting technique. This accent wall painting technique can be achieved with minimal home improvement supplies and a variety
of leaf stencils. The way to make the falling leaves scene look realistic is to use leaves of different sizes and place them in different falling directions, as if a breeze is helping them to the ground.

Accent Wall Painting Technique Supplies

Leaf Stencils

Purchase a couple of pre-made leaf stencils in two and three different sizes. Stick with one or two types of leaves.

If you cannot find the leaf you want, you can make your own stencils. Find a clip art image or make a photo copy of a real leaf. Create your own stencil by using part of a manila envelope and an X-acto knife.

Make a copy of the leaf and reverse the direction for the stencil. Also cut out a leaf and fold one side of it to make another leaf stencil for the accent wall painting technique. The folded leaf will make the falling leaves scene look more realistic.

Also use the original leaf design to make a couple of larger leafs and smaller leafs. The falling leaf scene will look better and be more interesting with leaves of different sizes.

Stencil Paints

You can purchase small bottles of stencil paints from the local arts and crafts store.

Flat Stencil Brush

For the easiest application, use a flat stencil brush to apply the falling leaves scene.

Painter's Tape

Painter's tape will help keep the falling leaves scene stencil on the wall while you crate your home accents.

How To Create a Mood with Falling Leaves Scene

For a local and natural feel, pick leaf stencils that represent local foliage. For a more exotic feel, or a vacation feel, choose leaf stencils from leaf shapes that are not native to your geographic area.

You can continue this accent wall painting technique in different rooms, for cohesive home decor.

Creating a Falling Leaves Scene

Set up your leaf stencils on top of a large piece of paper. This is why it is useful to create copies of the falling leaves scene stencils. Do a quick mock up of how the leaves will look the way you have the stencils arranged

I like this idea. It reminds me of one of my own.

Sounds llike a lot of "creative work", but I bet the outcome is pretty.

You're braver than me. Mine would probably look like a mulch pile.
