Fall is a busy time for landscaping. There is transplanting, maintenance, bulb plantings, and landscaping designing to be done. Fall Landscaping - Transplanting
The Fall season is an ideal time to transplant shrubs, trees, herbs and flowers. Trees and shrubs that have outgrown their areas or need to be moved for other reasons can be safely moved at this time.
Herbs, bulbs, tubular and roots can now be divided giving you the opportunity to control their size and location. Transplanting items in the Fall helps you fill in and/or thin out areas you noticed during the Spring and Summer.
Fall Landscaping - Maintenance
Maintenance is the biggest Fall landscaping job. Trees and shrubs need to be pruned as well as given their Fall fertilization. Herbs and plants (such as hydrangeas, azaleas) need to be cut back and/or shaped.
Any clippings, leaves, branches etc. that have fallen on the ground must be removed. To prevent the spreading of disease, they should not be added to your compost or used as mulching. Bag them all up and dispose of them off your property.
Fall is a great time to help make garden planting easier in the Spring. After all of the crops are processed, you can clean it of any debris and turn the soil. By taking the time to do this now, when the soil is easy to work, you will save yourself a lot of back-breaking work later.
Fall Landscaping - Bulb Planting
Bulb planting in the Fall always seems like wasted time, until the wonderful flowers start popping their heads up in the Spring. There are hundreds of types of bulbs to choose from like, lilies, tulips irises in just as many colors. They can be ordered online, from catalogs or picked up locally. The great thing is they keep coming back year after year so by spending time planting them now, you will get years of enjoyment.
Fall Landscaping - Design Ideas
With many plants heading for a doormat period, you can make the landscaping look well kept and tidy by cutting the grass and trimming all the edges.
Fall is the optimum to bring in a fresh supply of bark to protect and beautify your landscaping. The bark can work as a type of weed control in your beds as well as give them a fresh, clean look.
