I am writing this article because, unfortunately it happened to me. I don't want it to happen to you. Please read this article and pay attention to how your employer is treating you.I moved to the State of Kentucky a few years ago and immediately started looking for work. I had worked in the Dermatology field for over eight years and had a college degree in Medical Office Administration. Where I had moved from, I had a wonderful job working for a wonderful Dermatologist who, I guess in a sense, spoiled me. I worked for a Dermatologist who cared more for his patients that for the money it made him. If a patient came to him and needed him but couldn't pay for his services, he would work out arrangements for as little as $5.00 a month so that they could be treated and taken care of. This man showed me what the medical field could do for a person, this man showed me what I wanted to be able to do, help others. But when I moved, I found that this practice of putting the patient first and forgetting about the cash value was rare and not only the way the patient was treated was different but I had worked for this man for over eight years and he showed me consideration for my ideas, he showed me respect for my work ethic, and he appreciated what I did for him and was always good to tell me that I was doing a great job and learning a great deal where in my new place of work, none of this existed.
I was a single mother when I decided to go back to college. I decided on the medical field because I always had an interest in helping others and had been active in doing volunteer work at a hospital where I grew up talking to newly diagnosed diabetics. I also had a natural ability when it came to clerical work, I could type over 65 words a minute with no errors before I learned to type, it just came natural to me. I combined these two things and decided on a degree in Medical Office Administration. I worked a part-time job, took care of my newly diagnosed diabetic son, and went to college at night while my parents took care of my son for a year and a half and I earned my degree with honors. It was the best decision I ever made, a lot of hard work and long hours but well worth it.
