The Differences Between Male and Female Football Fans

From the View of a Female Football Fan

Over the past 10-15 years, the number of female football fans has grown.  I happen to love football and after watching my favorite college team lose yesterday, I got to thinking about the differences between male and female football fans.  How do male and female football fans
handle losses?  How does each decorate their home?  There are quite a few differences between the two, but some are more interesting than others.  Here are just a few differences between male and female football fans.

Why Did Male and Female Fans Start Watching Football?

Male fans love to play football.  Football is also a bonding experience for fathers and sons.  When male football fans were younger, they probably spent hours watching football games with their father.  Male football fans also probably spent a lot of time playing football with their friends, practicing for when they got old enough to play for the school team.

Female fans do love the game, but most started watching football because a cute player caught their eye.  This is why I started watching football.  I was never interested in football, until I saw the movie Ace Ventura.  While watching the movie, I spotted Dan Marino and I quickly became interested in the game.  Other female fans probably became interested after watching a game with a boyfriend or their husband.   Whatever the reason people start watching football, it’s very addictive and hard to stop once you start.

How Do Male and Female Fans Handle Their Team Losing?

Male football fans usually get mad and cuss, throw things, etc. They may yell and scream and swear never to watch that piece of crap team again.  Male fans seem to take it personally and feel let down by their team.  They sometimes go so far as to remove all the memorabilia from their homes and cars.

It's good to see that there are other female football fans on here. I'm a fan of the Redskins too! My favorite college team is the Tennessee Vols (I'm originally from East Tennessee) and my favorite pro team is the Titans. But I also have several other favorites in pro and college. I love the Buckeyes in college. And in pro I live the Packers and Panthers as well :)

I started watching football when I was in high school. My high school team was awesome and we won the state championship my senior year. My best friend (female) had lived in Texas - need I say more (LOL). And my dad didn't have any sons, and I was the oldest. I'm a Redskins fan. The only time I cried about football was when Joe Gibbs came back a couple of years ago. I cried my eyes out, I was so happy!

For me, you hit the nail on the head with your reason for women becoming interested in football. My husband never thought he'd marry someone who would share his love of football and who would cheer on his favorite college teams with him each Fall Saturday afternoon. Lucky him!! Lucky me that he's not into body painting!
