I was checking some news blurbs on the Internet today and came across a few pieces about Jen Moss, the Naked Lady or the Pastie Lady, of Ashland, Oregon. I had never heard of Jen Moss before. I live in a small town in upstate New York, and because I have 4 children, I do not have much time to watch TV or surf the Internet. If Jen Moss has been in the news, I wouldn't know it. Apparently Jen Moss wants to ride a bicycle topless in Ashland, Oregon's Fourth of July parade.. There are no laws that say this is a crime. Their laws must not be a specific as New York's. I looked up our states law pertaining to this. Here is the information I found:

245.01 Exposure of a person: A person is guilty of exposure if he appears in a public place in such a manner that the private or intimate parts of his body are unclothed or exposed. For purposes of this section, the private or intimate parts of a female person shall include that portion of the breast which is below the top of the areola. This section shall not apply to the breastfeeding of infants or to any person entertaining or performing in a play, exhibition, show or entertainment.

Exposure of a person is a violation.

I'm a resident of Ashland, Oregon and i happen to see the Naked Lady all the time. I spend a lot of my time downtown and i see her often riding her bike or on her roller blades wearing nothing but a g-string. I think this is perfectly fine. Not only is it LEGAL in Ashland, but she isn't engaging in anything sexual or using her body in any profitable way. As for the Fourth of July parade, she may have agreed to stay out of it, but that didn't stop her from roller blading down the main drag a few times before the parade. I think it would have been better to just let her be in without making the big fuss. Most of the residents of Ashland are fine with nudity (it is a "hippie town") and i think it's time for the rest of the world to relax a little. Everyone is naked sometimes. We all know that people have breasts and penises and vaginas. Instead of cpnstantly covering everything up and making everyone curious, why can't we just live with what we were born with and be okay with that?

Bogdan, you're an idiot. Men can go topless and woman can't, and it says it right in the law she posted. "A person is guilty of exposure if he appears in a public place in such a manner that the private or intimate parts of his body are unclothed or exposed." Men don't have intimate body parts on their chest, girls do. Case closed.

to me it's not a matter of legality but rather when it's appropriate and it's not appropriate to do it in front of kids in a parade. On Easter of 2008 here in Ojai she waited outside a church topless on her bike for the people and their children to come out so she could parade around. She is a clear example of someone abusing the freedom of expression and Ojai is so glad to get rid of her but we do feel for Ashland. Apparently she has a lot of free time. What a pity.

Sorry for a misprint, it should be: "men".

If a man can go top less on the street, so a woman too. US constitution ( I hope ) guarantees EQUAL RIGHTS.

I was there. She's cute - and the fact that she wasn't ripped to shreds like she would have been in other countries is a GREAT message for kids.

Having lived in Ashland for several years, I can assure you that nudity is, in fact, legal. The controversy isn't her nudity itself as it is acting as an exhibitionist at an otherwise family event. Ashland has warm temperatures, so I suspect more common here than in Canada.

As a mother, I feel that it is completely inappropriate to bare yourself in public, especially in a parade, where there will be countless children watching! I'm fine with nudity....in a strictly adults-only environment. Where there are children involved-keep your clothes on!!

Grow up America. We all have naked bodies, get over it. The lady is not going to involve in any sexual act, which might reasonably be considered as inappropriate, but simply riding a bicycle with her breasts exposed. Big deal. At the same time the US toerates and encourages a mindless pro gun culture (if I can use that word to describe it), and a porn industry which leads the world, to name but two contradictions. Leave naked people alone, they're the same as everyone else before the Puritans got to them.

Great article. Going topless is actually legal where I live in Canada but no one really does it except at beaches etc.
