What Precautions Should You Take?

Some Dos

There is no restriction for a normal person after having 'cataract surgery'. However, people having any other health complaints like diabetes, hypertension should seek the advice of their general physician for dietary recommendation.

After cataract surgery, a person should use dark glasses while going out at least for a month to avoid injury and
 infection.

A person who has had cataract surgery can get up and move around normally within the house and can even go for short walks with an attendant after one month.

He can resume his household activities after one month.

The attendant should carefully wash his hands well with soap and water before applying post-operative eye medications in the affected eye of the patient.

The following medicines are to be administered.....

BETNESOL 'N' eye drops--------------6 times a day for 30 days

FLUR eye drops -------------------------2 times a day for 30 days

TAB DIAMOX --------------------------2 times a day for 5 days

Special instructions while applying eye drops after cataract surgery....

Do not touch the tip or nozzle of the bottle

Keep the bottle at a safe distance from the eye

Tell the patient to look up and gently pull down the lower eyelid with your left thumb while holding the bottle in your right hand

Apply the eyedrops in the lower and inner part of the patient's lower eyelid

Some Don'ts...

Do not have a head water bath for the first one month after surgery

Can shave after 7th day after the surgery but do not wash the face

Do not watch television or read for one month

Do not play with children for a month to avoid any possible injury

Do not rub your eye within the first month

Do not lift heavy weights and do not bend as when tying your shoe laces for a month

Avoid deep coughing, sneezing and straining while passing stools for a month

Finally, if there is a problem consult your eye doctor immediately
