Saunas have earned a high reputation in the marketplace as an avenue for removing toxins from the body and improving overall health. However, for some individuals, the use of a sauna may not appropriate and, in fact, may be detrimental to one's health. Understanding what sauna therapy is, the affects a sauna has on the body and the contraindications for use, will ensure individuals are better equipped for making the right decision with regard to the natural toxin releasing treatment.Saunas provide a relaxing and soothing, heated environment in which cleansing of pores and relaxing of muscles are the immediate known affects. With sauna therapy, most individuals experience a rejuvenation with a noteable improvement in sleep. In addition, sauna therapy provides a rejuvenated appearance to the skin allowing for a more youthful appearance through the ability to relax only the outer layer of skin, improving blood vessel dilation and circulation.
As with any alternative health program, the use of sauna therapy, in improving natural health, may be contraindicated in some individuals. Those suffering from cardiovascular conditions, asthma, skin diseases, fever, recent consumption of alcohol and women who are pregnant should avoid the use of a sauna until cleared by a physician. Because the temperature extremes in a sauna both entering and exiting can be significant, individuals with contraindicated conditions may suffer significant health complications in temperatures greater than 90 degrees. Especially in women who believe they may be pregnant, as the exposure to excessive heat, during the first trimester, may result in neural tube defects.
