If you've ever had a cat with litter box problems, you know how bad the problem can be. I had to replace the carpeting in two rooms in my home due to my cat peeing outside of the litter box. Even then, the smell lingered in the wood of the floor. And we'd tried everything. Different brands of litter. Different styles of litter boxes. Buying extra litter boxes. Putting the boxes in different places. Rewarding her with treats when she used the litter box. We took her to the vet, who put her on medication. We used Feliway, that cat pheromone stuff. I told you, we tried everything.
Then I came across some information on Bach Flower Remedies for pets. And I was desperate enough to give it a try.
Bach Flower Remedies were originally designed for people, but they can be used for animals as well. They are made from plants. There are 38 different essences, and one in particular is recommended for incontinence in pets. However, others might help as well, depending on the cause of the litter box problem.
Oak is the essence that is typically recommended to treat incontinence in pets. That's the one I used for my kitty. I also bought Star of Bethlehem, because we had recently lost a cat, and I thought perhaps she was grieving, and Star of Bethlehem is supposed to treat grief. If the Oak didn't seem to do the job by itself, I was going to add the Star of Bethlehem. However, the Oak did the trick.
Some other remedies you might want to consider include Holly, for cats that don't get along well with other pets; Water Violet, for cats that have a history of trauma or abuse; Willow, for cats that have litter box problems when left alone; and Rescue Remedy, for anxious cats.
As I said, I choose Oak to start with. After about a week of use, I saw a marked improvement. Now, these remedies are supposed to be fast-acting. You may see improvement in less than a week. If you don't see improvement in a week, you may want to try a different remedy.
