Celebrity and Political Condoms: Do People Actually Use Them?

When reports hit the media that a company was producing a series of condoms with Barack Obama and John McCain on them, there were probably some out there who actually thought someone would buy those to use on a hot and steamy night. It turns out that a lot of people bought them just as collector's items, which must be one heck of a conversation piece--or will be, especially when either candidate becomes President. You certainly wouldn't have seen anything like that during the Bush Administration (which might conjure some nightmares for more than a few) or even, ironically, during the Clinton administration. Had Bill Clinton condoms been on the market before he won the election in 1993, those would probably be one hot collector's item on eBay today, if even used by...oh never mind.

And never mind any talk about condoms and Presidents...let's hope ever again. Somehow in this wacky world we live in, I picture someone buying those Obama and McCain condoms and actually using them just to see how effective they are. Then when a pregnancy occurs, that person can blame either Obama or McCain for not living up to their promises...off-handedly. It's certainly a scenario that I see playing out in some random bedroom in America. But we'll assume that same person has some other celebrity condoms stashed away that he bought just because they looked attractive.

Yes, there are plenty of those types of condoms out there. In fact, celebrity condoms have become a lucrative market this decade and during the safe sex era. It's a bit bizarre, though, to realize that some of the celebrities giving the blessing to use their mugs on condoms are known for being some of the most promiscuous people in show business. With that thought in mind, I can't imagine anybody would want to take a chance using one when they could be produced in...oh, I don't know, China.
