Backpack with a hike or camping trip along the many trails in the United States. In my youth I was drawn to backpacking primarily to explore places along mountain trails that I considered beautiful and fascinating, many of which I could not of done in any other way except by trekking. I was able to hike deeper into remote
areas, away from people and their effects. It was a soul searching experience that is one of the memories of my younger years.
At first my hiking was limited to the Applachian Trial in the eastern part of the States, depending on my vacation time I had
from studies. I became a member in the Appalachian Mountain Club and together we trekked through the trails enjoying the hikes and the wonderful scenery along the natural paths. I joined them in them in their conservation efforts in the correct
use of the mountains, rivers and trails in the Appalachian region. The treks along the trails was above all a spritual reunion with gifts of nature.
Later, when time and strength permitted, I participated in hiking along many trails in the country together with one of the
hiking groups of the American Hiking Society (www.americanhiking.org). My wife and my children were excellent
companions along the routes and together we had excellent vacations. There were no favourites as all had scenic
wonders, well-marked routes and various amenities.
One might ask what is backpacking? In simple words backpacking is when an individual packs his or her gear into a knapsack and hits the trail. This gear must include food, a canteen of water, and a compact folding tent. A hiker’s trip
includes at least one overnight stay in the wilderness (otherwise it is a day hike). Many backpacking trips last just for a
long weekend, but for some enthusiasts a trek can last longer depending on their requirements.
