Walking Down the Road..
With the increasing oil prices more and more people are walking down the road. In this article I want to point out some important things to know. I have mostly walked down two lane highway roads. I have very little experience with walking in city blocks.
That would be a different article then this one.
The first thing I want to say is to know your law. The road walking laws are different when you go from county to county, and when you go from state to state. Some states require you to stay on one side, while another state requires you to be on the other side. It depends on your location, and there is a good reason for that.
Something that is very important is always watching your back. Always look behind you while making your trip. Do not get lazy and stop looking. Your life is in danger when walking down any road. I have nearly gotten ran over on more than one occasion for not checking my rear.
When a car is coming up on you get off the pavement. You do not want to get hit by a swerving car. Some people take pleasure in bringing their vehicles to nearly hitting someone. They also take pleasure in honking their horns just as they are passing you. I think it has something do with scaring someone.
Do not cross any roads while a car is approaching. Make sure you have more than enough time to walk across the road. There are drivers that speed up to hit someone, instead of slowing down to miss them. They will say things like, "Its there fault for getting in my way"
Sometimes trash gets thrown out of cars. Remember always to watch your back. People have thrown their beer bottles at me. If one of those bottles had ever hit me, I believe it would have killed me. I am not exaggerating.
It's legal in my state to pass cars when there is a dotted yellow line. For some reason when they pass it will be right on time for me to be in the way. If this happens make sure you get completely away from the road. I have had to jump across a ditch, and have jumped more than ounce avoiding cars.
