DSU is located in a small town in South Dakota called Madison. It has a population of about 7000 people, and is located about three hours away from Minneapolis and an hour away from South Dakota’s biggest city, Sioux Falls. Madison has a very safe, welcoming small town atmosphere; it has a booming main street for shopping, a two-screen theater and a bowling alley. There is a local grocery store and two smaller box stores for shopping. Some may find this limiting, but the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls is only forty-five minutes away.
The university it self has a total of 2300 students, about half of them are internet students and are not in Madison. About 600 students live on campus in the dorms, and another 600 live off campus in Madison. It features a wide variety of clubs and campus organizations for students to get involved in. Whether it be cuisine, Christianity, or computers, Dakota State has a club for it.
Although Dakota State University is a smaller school, it offers a wide variety of majors in a number different fields. DSU tends to focus on four major fields including technology, business, education, and science. In each of these major fields there a number of different majors that fill out parts of the field. For example in business, there are majors in accounting, finance, marketing, management, and education.
