The act of telling and keeping secrets has been around since the beginning of time. Nearly every person that has ever existed has told a secret to someone or kept a secret from someone. A secret is something that is kept from the knowledge of others. Secrets can be kept from everyone but
the person keeping the secret. They can also be kept amongst a select group of people. If someone chooses to share a secret with someone, it is usually under the assumption that the person being told will keep the secret from spreading to anyone else. Secrets are prevalent every where in life and can play huge roles in the lives of people.
There are many reasons why people choose to keep secrets from one another. Secrets are used in a variety of ways depending on the situation. Some people keep secrets from people to protect them acquiring knowledge that may have a negative effect on his or her life. Others keep secrets to manipulate people and portray themselves as something that they are not. Some secrets are kept because if anyone gained knowledge or a certain incident in one's life, it may ruin the reputation or the image that a person has built for his or herself. There are even times that secrets are kept because the hidden knowledge is too painful for one to talk about with others. Whatever the reason, secrets exist in everyone's lives.
