Decorative stenciling on the wall is one way you can add a unique touch that can beautify your home. Stenciling can be used no matter what design style you may have. Whether you are more into classical or traditional style, Victorian style or craftsman, as well as modern and contemporary designs or anything in between. Lace fabrics come in a variety of designs that compliment each decor. How to Use Lace as an Elegant Decorating Stencil
Materials:
Lace fabrics
Pencil
Tape measure or L-shaped ruler
Acrylic paint
Spray starch or adhesive
Stenciling brush or sponge
Instructions:
a. Pick out lace fabrics with designs that compliment your home's decor style. For example, with a Victorian style you can choose elaborate lace designs such as florals and leaves. For a contemporary style you can choose a lace design of paisley, simple waves or swirls.
b. Find the center of the design and make an even cut-out or square that will put one or two big patterns at the center of the square. You can cut several squares to save time of re-using the same one.
c. Mark the center of the wall and test on your design. Measure with a ruler or tape measure then put a mark where each design would go to be your guide. If you do not want the stencils done side by side or crowding each other, you can mark each grid to put your design, spacing them evenly so that the whole end result will be balanced as opposed to overlapping without proper directions.
d. Spray on starch at the back of the lace so that it can be used to adhere to the wall temporarily. Using starch or spray on adhesive that doesn't dry permanently will allow you to be able to move or position the cloth easily as well as removing without peeling off the wall paint underneath.
e. Paint through the holes of the design or patterns using your choice of acrylic paint. You can use a paint brush, a sponge or stenciling brush you can buy from craft stores.
f. Let it dry for a couple of minutes, then slowly peel off the lace fabric to reveal the stenciled wall.
g. Continue the process until you get to the end of the wall or area where you intend to put the final stencil design on.
