Having worked with children in many situations over the past seven years, I have discovered that there is no clear cut way to reach every child one encounters. There are as many ways to reach and teach a child as there are children in this world. Because of this, managing a classroom of thirty children may seem overwhelming. Doing so is not, however, impossible. In saying this, it should be clear that standardized testing, which boils all children down to numbers without evaluating each child personally, should not be the focus of childhood education. Each child in this world is an individual, and due to this they should be free to learn and explore the world in whichever way they feel comfortable. As a future educator, it is my goal to make all children feel intelligent and confident in themselves, not only in their daily education, but through every obstacle they face as they grow and mature.

Takeaways
  • Standardized Testing boils children down to numbers
  • All children learn differently
  • Hands on approaches are key.

This is so true. I'm a horrible tester and had a lot of trouble because of it. Also, now that NYS is all Regents, all they did was bring down the passing grade so that more people could pass. What the hell good does that do? And not all kids can pass the Regents, and because of that, can't get a diploma now. You know I was never going to pass the Math A Regents (took it 3 times: 17, 42, 63). I'm so glad I decided to homeschool. Standardized testing is so bad. I hope you really do become the kind of teacher you say. But you also have to remember that if you decide to teach in NYS, you're gonna have to prepare them for all those stupid tests anyhow. :(
