Great Christmas traditions for families can be simple or intricate, silent or clamorous, long lasting or quick passing.  That's perhaps the best thing about great Christmas traditions for families , they can be anything you want them to be and they can be altered or reconstructed as your family grows and changes.  The celebrating of every great Christmas tradition for families always begins with that first time you decide to try something new or special and it works so well that you just know its a  "keeper", something you and your family will readily repeat and cherish more each time you celebrate Christmas.  As you build your own collection of great Christmas traditions for your family, you may want to consider some of these.  

Luminaria    Christmas takes place during the darkest time of year.  Your family will enjoy lighting up the season in lots of ways but one that you can treasure as a great Christmas tradition for your family is to celebrate  by fashioning and displaying an array of candle lights commonly called a Luminaria.

You  can purchase Luminaria Kits in many department stores  or you can add to the tradition by purchasing the materials needed to construct your own.  Either way, the whole family can participate.  All you need are brown or,  better yet, white lunch bags, sand and small,  taper or votive size candles.  

Fill the bottom of each bag with sand and fold the top inch of each bag neatly back.  Set the taper in the  middle of the sand  firmly   and then place your bags along a sidewalk or driveway.  At dusk light the candles and with your family enjoy watching the glow.  The Luminaria can be used as a welcome for guests during the holidays or simply for your own enjoyment and sense of celebration.
