Carlos “Pretty Slow” Baldomir was no match for the faster and slicker assassin in Floyd Mayweather Jr. It was evident from the opening bell that Floyd was simply too quick on his feet for the steadier Baldomir. By the end of the first, Baldomir’s face was already reddened and showed indications of blood around the nose and left eye.For every punch Baldomir threw, Floyd capitalized with two or three; frustrating Carlos out of wack and his gameplan. Into the fourth and fifth rounds Baldomir showed signs of extreme frustration. Once again, Mayweather was too fast and didn’t allow Baldomir the opportunity to land anything significant. The victory was so lopsided; fans begin exiting the arena around the tenth and eleventh rounds. For the fans that decided to get their monies worth, there was a mixture of cheers & boos at the clinical masterpiece. Floyd Mayweather won virtually every round on every judge’s scorecards.
Shortly after Mayweather’s paint job on Carlos Baldomir, Floyd picked up where he left off. With emotions still running high, Larry Merchant stood by to conduct an interview with the new Welterweight champion. The interview was classic confrontation and will probably be the most memorable.
Larry – “We thought we heard you say that you hurt your right hand, when did you hurt it?”
Floyd - “Yes. I hurt my right hand,” Floyd complained to Larry Merchant following his decision victory. “I think it was about the sixth round. I am not really sure which round.”
Larry – “Was this as easy as you anticipated?”
Floyd – “I feel that down the stretch I would’ve got the knockout. I would’ve made him surrender, wave the white flag. But, he fought his heart out, I fought my heart out and we put on a pleasing performance tonight.”
Larry – “Do you think this was particularly entertaining? There were people booing, there were people leaving after the tenth and eleventh round and since you’ve brought the subject up I want your response.”
