We love to spend time relaxing on our deck especially once the stars are out and the stress of the day has been overtaken with darkness. Our favorite type of deck lighting is to use rope lighting, deck flood lights, and hurricane torch lamps. These stylish lights will light up the area enough where you can see but not overpower the deck so that you feel you are on a baseball field. Rope lighting reminds me of white Christmas lights only more contemporary. The bulbs are tiny and white.

Install Rope Lighting
What You Will Need:
Rope lighting
End caps
Plastic track
¾ Nails or screws
Drill
Two people

To install rope lighting measure all areas of your deck you want to install light. Buy one long piece of rope lighting and be sure to add a little extra rope for safe measure.

1) Cut the track to the correct length needed in the area you will be working on first. (You should start at the end with the connected power cord.)

2) Drill the back of the track.

3) Two people will need to be on this part of the job to make it much easier. Mount the track along the deck area you will be installing the lights with nails or screws that are corrosion resistant.

3) Finally, mount the rope of lights inside of the track by gently pushing them in. Put cap on the end of the rope light to seal it.

You now have beautiful rope lighting to add ambiance to your deck.

Install Flood Lights
What You Will Need:
Flood lights with a ground stake (for easier installation).

1) Insert flood lights into ground in area of your choice. Tips: Light in areas where there are walkways or steps.

2) Cover the wire and waterproof connectors with 6 inches of dirt as stated on the directions of the package.

3) Be sure the light will not flash into your eyes or your guests eyes. You can easily adjust the light to the desired direction.

Deck Torch
What You Will Need:
Sean Conway hurricane lanterns.

Sean Conway has created beautiful hurricane lanterns. You can buy them at Target. The hurricane lanterns will add extra light above you and your guests.

1) Attach to your deck with hardware included. Very simple directions.

I have been trying to figure out a way to do that on our deck.. but it's not set up in such a convient manner.. for now the fire pit and bucket candles are our intimate lighting effect! LOL!
