Although many men and women suffer from hereditary hair loss, or alopecia, the second most common cause of hair loss is because of poor scalp condition due to the buildup of hormonal substances such as DHT, sebum, and because of exposure to irritants such as pollen, dirt, dust, cigarette smoke, and harsh chemicals found in many shampoos and styling products. Once these harmful substances have been eliminated from the scalp by using a deep cleansing shampoo which deep cleans the hair as well as the scalp, you have already eliminated one third of the cause of most hair loss and greatly increased the odds of future new hair growth. One other component for beginning new hair growth after eliminating the free radicals mentioned above is to get the blood flowing properly through the scalp again. The best method for getting blood to flow through the scalp again is to massage the scalp at least once each day. Here are the best tips that I have found for performing an effective scalp massage. Each time you wash your hair in a deep cleansing shampoo and conditioner, be sure that you only use the tops of the tips of each finger in the hair, not the finger nails, but the tips of the fingers. Using the fingernails can irritate the scalp leading to redness and dry, flaky itchy skin and worsening hair loss. Work the cleansing shampoo deeply into the scalp and hair for one to three minutes and let it set in the hair to deep clean for an additional three to five minutes. Think of this as the wash cycle on your clothes washing machine. Work the shampoo deeply into the fibers of the hair and scalp so that you cleanse the hair from the inside out.
