No one disputes that airlines use of lot of fuel. No one disputes that CURRENT FUEL costs a lot of money [even though the airlines buy in bulk and pay less than one-half what general aviation airplanes pay].

This author claims a huge conspiracy OR the airlines are hiring dumb stick CEOs and engineers you decide which.

Between day one and last year, airlines were paying about one half what the general public was paying for fuel, and fuel costs were not altogether heinous, though at $3.00 a gallon for civilian fuel, costs were absurd [when it costs less than 10 cents per barrel to bring the oil out of the ground. "Venezuela is still charging under 25 cents a gallon selling to their citizenry.]

Sir Richard Branson is the owner of Virgin Airlines and two months ago, he directed his engineers to mix a concoction of regular jet fuel with an alternative fuel. His flight went from the UK to the USA and was a success. As I wrote previously, the airplane Gossamer used only sunlight to power its propellers. So far, that gives us 3 fuels, jet fuel, ethanol and electricity. We still have diesel, biodiesel, methanol and ethanol plus butane. A car made in Carlsbad, California, just went across America and needed only 1, ten gallon tank of fuel to go 3,000 miles. It used gasoline and electricity.

So, again, I ask the airlines, [who have top quality engineers on staff]; why are you not modifying your engines to handle alternative fuels so that your fuel costs you between ZERO and twenty five cents a gallon?

YOU are not doing so because you don't want to! Yet. YOU are playing the gambler's game of see how high we can raise our prices by removing planes from service, and all the other covert and overt methods.

When people decide not to fly for fun or business anymore [on scheduled airlines], you will have found the squeeze point of their wallets.

Or, heaven forbid, like with some other large firms, maybe, just maybe, the CEOs are so stupid [or rich], that they don't care about customer's costs of flying.

Did You Know?
Virgin air uses alternative fuels, SW uses options.
