You’ve known her a long time and you tell each other your secrets. She stands by you when you are having a rough time and she doesn’t judge you. You like a lot of the same things and enjoy doing things together. She is a favorite girlfriend. When a gift occasion arises, you want to get her something she will get pleasure from. Doing something nice for your friend will make you feel good as well. These are some gift ideas for that favorite friend:

1. You and your friend go out to lunch together frequently. Plan a lunch date, only this time you pick up the check for both of you. Select a new restaurant that the two of you haven’t visited yet. That way, you enjoy each other’s company, share a meal, and your friend gets a treat. Your gift brings good feelings to both of you.

2. Because you know her so well, you know what kind of books she likes to read. Pick out a bestseller from her favorite book genre. Maybe she’ll even let you read it when she is finished with it. Buy her a magazine subscription to the one she would like to have, but doesn’t spend the money on. You can tell by the ones she peruses in the grocery check-out line. If you know she loves decorating, crocheting, fashion, or gardening, get her a magazine with that theme.

3. When you go shopping together and window shop, you visit your favorite stores. Get her a gift certificate to the store she loves the most. She’ll think of you when she shops for that special item. Ask her to go shopping with you. When she says she likes a certain blouse or top, buy it for her. You’ll feel good every time you see her wear it.

4. Buy her a gift certificate for a manicure and a pedicure at her favorite salon. Buy yourself one as well so you can share the experience with her. The two of you can have a girls’ afternoon out together.

5. Take her to a movie and make it a movie date. Pay for her ticket, her popcorn, and her drink. Let her pick the movie and pick her up at her house so she doesn’t have to drive. Maybe the two of you can go dutch treat for dinner afterwards.

Marybeth, These are fabulous ideas. My best friend and I are going through a rough patch right now, mostly because I'm in a relationship and she is not. It's been difficult for me to make time for her as much as I have in the past, and she is feeling neglected. I've been racking my brain trying to think of the best expensive gift I can get her to make up for everything. After reading your article, I think taking her out to a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner would be just what she wants. Thanks so much for the help, Janey
