The Best of Kansas City - Looking for the Best Salon, Burger or Pizza Slice in the K.C. Missouri Metro?

As a recent transplant to Kansas City – I've only lived here for two months – I have done mu best to really immerse myself in the city. As a native of Springfield, MO, the differences are somewhat marginal: a mid-size city with a bustling downtown and great eats on every corner. But it doesn't take long to see the vast differences between the two cities. That's why I compiled my first "5 Best" list. Consider it my picks for the best of Kansas City thus far. I have scoured farmers' markets, I have visited more specialty boutiques than my credit card deems appropriate, and I have eaten at some pretty incredible and well-known local treasures. So, without further adieu, here is my first installment of the 5 Best:

Best Salon: The Darling Room

This tiny, two-girl operation is the best spot downtown for a great haircut with a great view…inside. The décor is killer (and is about to be redone, so get there quick); girly pinks and frilly furniture abound in this tiny hole-in-the-wall salon that's a perfect escape from the city hustle and bustle. You'll feel like a Victorian queen peering into a gold antique mirror at your incredible new quoif. And it's cheap! For an hour-long haircut, it's only going to set you back $35, and a trim is always free! Best Burger: Westport Flea Market

At first glance, this seemingly decrepit flea market looks more like an abandoned garage sale than a busy bar and grill. But step inside and you'll understand immediately the allure that charms so many locals to coming back for the best burger in town. Nicknamed "The Flea" by locals, the Wesport Flea Market has repeatedly been voted K.C.'s best burger, this dive is not for the weak at heart. Their "small" burger is larger than most restaurants' standard and their beef burgers should be called butter burgers for the all drool-inducing they are responsible for. But be warned: your wait will be long on the weekend, and they only take cash.
