Managing Kids Online Habits at Disney.com/camprock
Sites like Disney.com/camprock can keep kids online for hours at at time. The Disney.com/camprock web site, for example, is a place to view the entire Camp Rock movie online. Tweens who missed the weekend bonanza of the daily airings of Camp Rock can watch it online. These same tweens can watch Camp Rock over and over, as tweens tend to do when they find a movie, show or song they like.
Managing the time kids spend online is only slightly different than managing the time they spend watching TV or playing video games. With TV and video games, there are not direct educational applications, and with the Internet there are. Parents also need to be aware that there is increasingly "more on" and more to do online than there is on TV.
1. When managing time kids spend online, parents need to allow for both research time and for entertainment time. When it comes to web sites like Disney.com/camprock, tweens who want to watch an entire movie will be spending at least two hours online. Spending time online is not the same as watching TV. It's more interactive, and parents need to acknowledge that.
